It was the legendary Louis Cartier himself who was inspired to create the Tortue in 1912. As the watch’s name might suggest, the design of the watch was supposedly inspired by the shape of the humble tortoise. Eschewing the more commonly found round shape for a watch’s case, Cartier introduced an innovative and iconic new watch design.
